Creamy Greek Yoghurt with Nuts and Honey – A Simple, Healthy Iftar Treat!

Assalamu Alaikum, my lovely readers! Ramadan Mubarak to you all! It’s Shahena here, your British Bengali mum of four from London, back with another quick and wholesome recipe that’s perfect for Iftar. Today, I’m sharing one of my family’s favourite treats – Greek Yoghurt with Nuts and Honey. It’s creamy, crunchy, sweet, and oh-so-satisfying, making it the perfect way to end your Iftar meal on a healthy note.

This recipe is ridiculously easy to put together, but don’t let its simplicity fool you – it’s packed with flavour and goodness. The creamy yoghurt, crunchy nuts, and drizzle of honey come together to create a dish that feels indulgent but is actually really good for you. Plus, it’s a great way to get the kids to enjoy something nutritious without any fuss. Trust me, even my picky eaters can’t resist this one!

Greek Yoghurt with Nuts and Honey Recipe

Ingredients (Serves 4)

  • 500g Greek yoghurt (full-fat or low-fat, depending on your preference)
  • 2 tbsp honey (or more to taste)
  • A handful of mixed nuts (I use almonds, walnuts, and pistachios)
  • 1 tbsp chia seeds (optional, but great for an extra boost of nutrition)
  • A handful of fresh berries (strawberries, blueberries, or raspberries work beautifully)
  • A sprinkle of cinnamon (optional, but adds a lovely warmth)

Method

  1. Toast the nuts:
Heat a small frying pan over medium heat and lightly toast the mixed nuts for 2-3 minutes until they’re fragrant and slightly golden. Keep an eye on them to make sure they don’t burn! Once toasted, roughly chop them or leave them whole – it’s up to you.
  2. Assemble the yoghurt bowls:
Divide the Greek yoghurt evenly between four bowls. If you’re feeling fancy, you can swirl it into the bowls for a prettier presentation.
  3. Add the toppings:
Sprinkle the toasted nuts over the yoghurt, followed by the chia seeds (if using) and fresh berries. Drizzle each bowl with a generous spoonful of honey – this adds the perfect touch of sweetness.
  4. Finish with a sprinkle of magic:
If you like, add a light dusting of cinnamon for a warm, cosy flavour. It’s totally optional, but it takes this dish to the next level!

Why This Recipe is Perfect for Iftar

  • Light and refreshing: After a day of fasting, this dish is gentle on the stomach and incredibly refreshing.
  • Packed with nutrients: Greek yoghurt is rich in protein, nuts provide healthy fats, and honey adds natural sweetness – it’s a balanced treat!
  • Quick and easy: It takes just minutes to put together, making it ideal for busy mums like me.

Tips and Tricks

  • Customise it: Feel free to switch up the toppings! Try adding dried fruit, granola, or even a sprinkle of dark chocolate chips for a treat.
  • Make it ahead: You can prepare the yoghurt bowls in advance and keep them in the fridge until you’re ready to serve. Just add the honey and nuts right before eating to keep them crunchy.
  • Kid-friendly: Let the kids choose their own toppings – it’s a fun way to get them involved and excited about eating something healthy.
