Plus, they’re super versatile, so you can customise them to suit your taste or whatever you have in the fridge. Even my little ones love them (and that’s a win in my book!). Whether you’re looking for a light Iftar meal or something to pack for Suhoor, these wraps have got you covered.

Whole Wheat Chicken Wraps Recipe

Ingredients (Makes 4 wraps)

  • For the chicken:
  • 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (or thighs), thinly sliced
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp garlic paste (or 2 cloves, minced)
  • 1 tsp ginger paste
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp chilli powder (adjust to taste)
  • Juice of 1/2 lemon
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • For the wraps:
  • 4 whole wheat tortillas or wraps
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1 cucumber, thinly sliced
  • 1 tomato, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 red onion, thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup Greek yoghurt or hummus (for spreading)
  • A handful of fresh coriander or parsley (optional, for garnish)
  • Lemon wedges (for serving)

Method

  1. Marinate the chicken:
In a bowl, mix the olive oil, garlic paste, ginger paste, paprika, cumin, coriander, turmeric, chilli powder, lemon juice, salt, and pepper. Add the sliced chicken and toss to coat. Let it marinate for at least 20 minutes (or overnight if you’re prepping ahead).
  2. Cook the chicken:
Heat a non-stick pan over medium heat and cook the chicken for 5-6 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it’s golden and cooked through. Set aside.
  3. Prep the veggies:
While the chicken is cooking, slice your cucumber, tomato, and red onion. Shred the lettuce and chop the fresh herbs if using.
  4. Assemble the wraps:
Warm the whole wheat tortillas slightly (this makes them easier to roll). Spread a thin layer of Greek yoghurt or hummus over each tortilla. Layer on the cooked chicken, shredded lettuce, cucumber, tomato, and red onion. Sprinkle with fresh coriander or parsley if you like.
  5. Roll and serve:
Fold the sides of the tortilla over the filling, then roll it up tightly. Slice in half if you like, and serve with lemon wedges on the side.

Why This Recipe is Perfect for Iftar

  • Healthy and balanced: Whole wheat tortillas, lean chicken, and fresh veggies make this a nutritious and satisfying meal.
  • Quick and easy: It takes just 30 minutes to prepare, making it ideal for busy mums like me.
  • Customisable: Add your favourite veggies, sauces, or even a sprinkle of cheese for a personal touch.

Tips and Tricks

  • Make it ahead: You can cook the chicken and prep the veggies in advance, then assemble the wraps just before serving.
  • Switch it up: Use grilled halloumi, falafel, or even leftover roast chicken instead of the spiced chicken for a different twist.
  • Kid-friendly: Let the kids build their own wraps – it’s a fun way to get them involved and excited about eating their veggies!
